Shanthala arts academy is a non profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of Indian arts. This institution is named after a queen from one of the most powerful dynasties of south India- Queen Shanthala of the Hoysala dynasty who was immensely responsible for the spread of Indian art and culture.
With its head office in Bangalore and international branch at St. Louis Missouri, USA, the academy has in its varied activities
- Training deserving students in Indian dance and music
- Choreographing dance ballets
- Organizing the annual Shanthala Nruthyotsava
- Dasara doll exhibitions (Of more than 4000 dolls)
- Dasara Music festival
- All-night Shivarathri dance and music festival
- Nattuvanga workshops in India and abroad

It has a huge collection of books related to dance, music and other allied arts, has its own costume department and confers its annual Shanthala award to senior artists.
The founder members
Prasanna Kasthuri
(popularly known as K R S
Prasanna) founded this institution with the help of his
able parents both of whom are well known authors in
Kannada.
K.R.Padmaje is a novelist and a social servant. She designs dance costumes and is the recipient of the Attimabbe Prashasthi for kannada
literature.
Late Raghusutha Born into a literary family,
Vidwan Raghusutha was initiated into learning the Vedas,
the Upanishads and the Scriptures since the age of
eight. Raghusutha began writing books in 1952. He has
more than 300 books published, which includes novels,
poems, short stories, plays and biographies. Having
worked as a geography lecturer, he traveled widely in
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. He along with his dancer
son Prasanna founded the Shanthala Arts Academy with a
view to encourage and spread art among the masses.

Major literary Projects
- Responsible for publishing 12 editions of the
encyclopedia of geography by the University of Mysore.
- “Bharteeya Punya Naari Parampare”. A book
dedicated to the great women of India right from the
days of the Vedas to the 20th century women
politicians. Out of the 15-volume book, he could
complete and publish only 8.
- “Bharateeya Smruthigalu”. This book contains a
description of the 36 smrithis – a handbook on
traditional customs and traditions of a society, which
have been followed for ages.
